Solar panels, Power, and Heating

Because solar energy is able to do a lot to save the environment as well as save people money, many people are interested in finding out more about how this energy works and about which kinds of products are most effective at using this kind of energy.

Some of the things that are needed and some of the things that are wanted in order to effectively use solar energy include:

• Solar panels – A solar panel is one of the items that is absolutely needed in order to be able to create solar energy. These panels do not necessarily need to be large in order to work. Some of the larger solar panels can be found on the roofs of homes, however there are much smaller panels that are placed on items like calculators or remote control cars.

• Solar heating systems – There are a few different types of solar heating systems that people can use. One of the most common types of solar heating systems is the solar pool heater. These heaters work by gathering energy from the sun and using that energy to increase the warmth of a pool.
These solar heating systems also can be simply used for the home. Despite this, most solar systems are not able to meet a home’s heating demands all by itself, therefore a typical home heating system is needed as well.

• Solar cells – Although sometimes a single solar cell is strong enough to be able to collect the solar energy needed to power a certain item, there are other cases when an item needs more than just one solar cell. In these cases, a collection of solar cells – called a module – are used.

• Solar lights – Solar lights are among some of the more popular kinds of items that use solar energy. These lights can be used in a few different places, however they are commonly found in outdoor gardens or along walkways in the front yard.
Solar lighting is effective at providing extra light, but is not effective at creating a bright light. If a lot of light is needed, it will likely require a lot of solar lights to get the job done.

• Solar hot water heaters – Solar hot water heaters are particularly useful in homes where there are not a lot of people and where not a lot of hot water is used. In homes that use a lot of hot water, the solar hot water heaters are often not able to keep pace.

• Solar battery charger – A battery charger is effective at letting one recharge batteries while on a camping trip or away from an outlet.

• Solar homes – There are some people who choose to incorporate all of these items together in an effort to create a complete residential solar power system. These solar homes can save one money by utilizing solar power, however it likely will take several years of using solar energy before one will be able to see much of a return on his or her investment, especially since complete solar home systems can cost thousands of dollars.
